Triplett Dance Academy’s Competition Company participates in several major national dance competitions each year. The dancers have received overall top scores, cash awards, Titles, Studio Awards, and judges’ awards in all styles of dance. This dedicated company of young dancers thrives on the additional rehearsal time and hours of preparation. Our company members are attentive in their weekly required classes and continue through the weekend with company rehearsals. Competition gives dancers a goal and inspires them to achieve excellence in their work, but as any dancer knows, you are your own greatest competitor!

The Company competes in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, and more. Typically, the dancers are divided by age and ability. Our competition dancers have been accepted into advanced programs to continue their training through summers and/or winter breaks. They have been awarded multiple scholarships towards National Conventions, Regional Conventions, different competitions and cash scholarships to put towards further training opportunities.

Triplett dancers have performed serval times at Walt Disney World in Orlando and became the first American dancers to attend and perform at the Groupe International des 8 festival on its 25th anniversary competition in Perpignan, France. The dancers have attended Dance Masters of America conventions nationally and regionally, with Chapter #25, where they work with well renown choreographers and teachers. The students have enjoyed either yearly opportunity to study with Ray Leeper, Kristen Gorski, and Stacey Tookey at the Nuvo Convention, which travels nationally. They recently attended the West Coast Dance Explosion, in Baltimore, MD…

WHAT QUALITIES MAKES A DANCER READY FOR COMPETITION?

Strong technical ability, enthusiasm for training, and strong performance projection are most important! You will need: Clarity of movement – high extension – single, double, or triple pirouettes depending on your level – strong high leaps – pointed feet – clear isolations. Groups are comprised by age averages and technical level. We recommend competition members participate in all styles of dance: lyrical/contemporary, ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop. Your group styles are determined based on the styles you train in weekly.

HOW MUCH OF A COMMITMENT IS REHEARSAL AND COMPETITION?

Dancers are required to attend all scheduled rehearsals and competitions. New material must be re-taught the following week whenever someone is absent from rehearsal. If a dancer quits in the middle of the season, dances must be re-choreographed and rehearsals for precision must begin from scratch. Months of rehearsal are destroyed for the other members in the group. Your priority cannot be school plays, sports teams and dance teams. If you work hard, all rehearsals make you a better dancer. The extra training and coaching will never go to waste if you use rehearsal time to improve yourself. Rehearsal times are during open studio hours throughout the week and the weekends.
